Welcome to our newest Blog type: Favorite Things! This is where your team of wellness experts list some of their favorite foods, tools, books and resources for self-managed well-being. Nothing here is ever affiliated, just a list of things we have great experience with and recommend to our clients on a regular basis. Today’s topic is all about food! It’s one of our dietitians’ most commonly asked questions: what to buy at Trader Joe’s?? Photos of all items are at the bottom – Enjoy!

Trader Joe’s Brea Favorite Healthy Things:

  • Arugula Salad. This pre-made salad is so tasty and is a great way to dip your toe into eating more bitter foods full of fiber, which are both great for the gut and immune system. Pair with your favorite protein and you have a complete meal!
  • Tabbouleh Salad & Balala Salad. Trust us: dump each container into a large bowl, stir and enjoy the wow flavor combo! Tons of fiber, antioxidants, protein and healthy fat make these 2 no-cook, no-prep options the perfect solution for days you just can’t meal prep.
  • Frozen Mahi Mahi Burgers. Speaking of days you just can’t meal prep, may we suggest yummy burgers? Cook from frozen, top with some avocado and serve on top of that Arugula Salad from the top of the list for a high omega, high protein, high fiber, low glycemic, oh so satisfying meal that takes 10 minutes to get onto your plate.
  • Plant-Based No-Time Tacos. Dietitian Megan has these 4 ingredients in her house at all times for when she needs a healthy meal in a pinch that her whole family loves: Carb-Savvy Tortillas (heat them on a griddle!) + Frozen Fire-Roasted Bell Peppers & Onions (sauteed a few minutes) + High Protein Tofu (no press needed, just chop up and throw into the sauteed bell pepper mix) + Pepita Salsa. Perfection as is, but feel free to add some avocado or guac to give some extra pizzazz.
  • Snacks: Just a Handful of Manzanilla Olives (easy for on the move snacking and way more filling than an energy bar), Crispbread crackers (higher fiber than most other crackers and big enough to put any topping on), Mini Cucumbers (so much more fun to eat than regular cucs!), Wild Smoked Salmon (great way to get some omegas + protein and DELISH on top of those Crispbread Crackers with some Cuc slices!)
